Music Exploration

Week One

July 22-26

Music Exploration Week 1 is an exciting experience for students ages 7-18 combining elements of music theory, chamber music, improvisation, and composition.  Students are engaged with listening activities and creative exercises to provide a comprehensive educational experience for music students of all instruments including voice.

Weeks 2 & 3

July 29-August 3, August 5-9, 2013

The music history and theory courses offered to our harp, guitar, and chamber music institutes are open to any and all young musicians! Start the day with engaging academic music classes!

Music History

Each daily session will explore Western music history in a broad fashion. The class will serve as an introduction to music of the Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Twentieth Century periods. The focus of the course will be on listening along with interdisciplinary links to history, architecture and other art forms.

Music Theory

Learn the language, terminology and mechanics of music. Learn fundamentals of sound, notation, intervals, chords and musical forms.  A placement exam will be taken upon admission.

Aural Skills / Ear Training

This class is designed to help develop a keener sense for listening and is integrated with the music theory class. Each student will be able to distinguish between different intervals and chords, and will complete exercises in melodic and rhythmic dictation.

Eurhythmics

Founded by Swiss music educator Emile Jaques Dalcroze, Eurhythmics is a unique approach to developing musicianship through movement, ear training and improvisation activities.
