About the Guitar Institute
July 30-August 3, 2012
The Guitar Institute offers beginning to advanced students ages 7-15 the experience of playing the guitar with other guitarists in an ensemble setting. The camp is clasically oriented, although students will gain knowledge of other popular music styles. Student guitarists practice reading and fingering skills, as well as learning to follow a conductor, all while having fun making music.
Students are challenged to attain excellence, develop musicianship skills and confidence in their ability to express themselves through the beauty of music. They will receive instruction in eurhythmics, aural skills/theory and will learn about the history and repertoire of the classical guitar. Students will study many of the most well known composers and arrangers of the guitar, and be exposed to some of the finest pieces written for the instrument.

It is a week of sharing with other musicians; of making lifetime friendships; of developing interpersonal skills; and of growing as a musician and an individual. The daily schedule of rehearsals, classes and individual attention from our distinguished faculty is a challenging and exhilarating artistic experience.
The combination of an outstanding faculty, the beautiful and historic setting in the heart of Virginia, a rich musical environment and talented students makes the camp an exciting, memorable and rewarding experience. Guitar Camp offers a supportive and inspiring musical environment for the student artist.
Most importantly, guitar students of all levels are welcome. Attention is given to individual needs, learning style and physiology. Repertoire selections are tailored to match student abilities. Emphasis will be placed on exercises to reach a student's development of effective practice skills, memorization techniques and performance etiquette.
